Sarah and I hit it off on the phone from the start and I liked her instantly!  Then when I met Kirk at their engagement session, (click here to see their session) and saw them interact together I just knew this was going to be a fun wedding. From start to finish this event was beautiful and filled with intimate moments between an incredible couple and the friends and family that love them so dearly. This wedding was a welcome start to my 2012 season and what made it even better was that I was able to work with two of my favorite photographers, Michael Kelly out of Boston as well as Jaclyn of Jaclyn L Photography out of Newport, RI.  Both are so incredibly talented and creative!

I love the pictures we captured from their day and from the First Congregational Church in Lee. The old rustic church had a antique staircase and unique details that provided lots of inspiration for amazing photos.  The reception was held at the Pittsfield Country Club where I love photographing events since it’s such a pretty and warm, welcoming environment.

Congratulations to the wonderful Kirk and Sarah Nichols- it has been an absolute JOY to work with you! Wishing you many, many happy years to come.

Mike and Jaclyn  went to meet Kirk and his crew at Sarah and Kirks new home. It’s obvious that some laughs were had by all. Kirk and Sarah saw one another before the ceremony. We did their “first look” at the church. I just love these shots!

Jaclyn captured this photo outside of the church. AMAZINGOn the porch of the Pittsfield Country Club we had some fun with the bridal party!
I loved how in addition to the best man and maid of honor speech, other friends came up to say a few words about the wedding couple.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it! XO Tricia

For this post, I asked that my intern Abby to be a guest blogger. She and I have been working together since October 2011. Not only has she assisted with photo shoots (her first day we did 7 sessions in a row!), she has also been helping with the business side of things.  Most recently she saved me by helping me put up the Photo Booth for a fundraising event – it’s nice to have the help when needed…thanks Abby!!

In the fall, I had the opportunity to take her family’s portraits and her Senior picture. During the session we had a blast, I let the family just be themselves and as a result we caputured beautiful shots that I hope will help them remember this special time before Abby graduates from High School.  Here’s a few photos that Abby and chose together for this post along with a little bit about what Abby had to say about the session:

Abby’s High School Senior Picture from Tricia McCormack Photography

My name is Abigail Fenton, I am a high school senior at Lenox High, and Tricia’s Intern. Next year I will be moving on to college to study photography at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Georgia. I love photography because you can capture moments that tell a whole story and last a lifetime. Photography also has the ability to make anything simple seem more complex and beautiful.

This was only my second family photo session with a professional photographer. The last time my family and I did this was when I was 7 years old. As with most families, there was a lot of stress beforehand about what everyone should wear and would  every one look happy in the photographs. Tricia provided wardrobe tips and having that definitely relieved some of the stress. I loved the session, because not only was Tricia very personable and made everyone feel at ease, but it was one last chance for my family and I to be captured in a certain way before I head off to college.

After the session I was very anxious to review the photos. Looking through the photos, there is a certain essence that came across. We all look so happy and there is a closeness you can feel just by looking at the pictures. These pictures are something that we will have forever. Now, we have some of the photos printed and  hung up all around our house. I love seeing them because not only do we look so close, but it reminds me of the day we got these taken. It was an easy going day where we joked around and had so many laughs. Not only does my family and I love seeing these photos around the house, but every time someone walks in the door they comment on how beautiful they are. -Abby

I met with Roni Fenton, Abby’s mom to figure out images to decorate the house. I made a visit to the house where we decided the best places to put the pictures and then returned to help hang them up. Abby took some pictures to show what it looks like now that it’s finished.

Nothing makes me happier than posting these pictures of this beautiful family and their newest little love. Our photo session was 2 hours of laughter with Cristina’s family including her parents and sister. My cheeks hurt from smiling as I drove away from their home near Mystic, CT. I’m SO grateful…for being able to witness this family’s joy, for having the amazing friendships like the one I share with Cristina and for a job that gives me access to capture moments like this.

Here are a few favorites from their family portrait session earlier this month:

OK, yes I’m even inserting myself in this session. That’s me, Cristina and David.

But most importantly, ending this post with his sweet little face.

February 7, 2012

Next month on March 9, Sarah and Kirk will exchange their vows at the First Congregational Church in Lee in front of all of their loved ones and I’ll be there to capture it.  However, it’s not the first time they’ve given their pledge to be married to one another forever.

Mind if I tell you a little love story?  I’ll start from the beginning.

Sarah and Kirk met while attending college in Boston and were immediate friends. A romance started but ended when they went their separate ways after graduation to fulfill different plans for their future. Kirk enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and Sarah enrolled in Law School in Boston.

Years went by and Kirk hadn’t forgotten Sarah, and so he decided to take a chance and give her a call.  The call was unexpected  by Sarah and they talked for a long time to catch up on the years that had passed. Days later Sarah was moving her things into a new apartment in Boston and her mother came to help. During the day, Sarah mentioned to her mom that a boy named Kirk had called her and how nice their conversation had been. However, Sarah dismissed it quickly and wondered out loud, “What is the point anyway? I live here and he lives in North Carolina.” Sarah’s mom chimed in, “Well, so what? Long distance relationships can work too Sarah!” Sarah listened to her mother and this time Sarah decided to make a call to Kirk.

Many phone calls and visits later, Sarah and Kirk picked up from where they had left off in college. As Kirk was getting ready to be discharged to Afghanistan with the Navy, Sarah and Kirk made plans to marry before he departed.  Sarah and Kirk married on March 9, 2009 in a small ceremony and months later in June, Kirk left to serve for our country overseas.

Kirk is now home safe and sound and this March 9 will mark their 3-year anniversary. That day, they will have the big wedding ceremony and celebration that they’ve been waiting for and this time it will take place with all of their friends and family.

I asked Sarah and Kirk about their story during our engagement session and then asked if I could share it. Love it! There’s so much to celebrate and I’m thrilled to be a part of their occasion and grateful to have met them through my photography. This past November our Berkshire County engagement session had us smiling and laughing the entire time. Congrats to you Sarah and Kirk! See you in a month.

Here are some black and white favorites from their engagement session:

These beautiful wedding pictures from your day make a story and I try to put it together through a slideshow. Each of my 2012 wedding collection’s include a HD slideshow, with a DVD copy for you. Here’s my most recent. Erin & Colin’s New Year’s Eve Wedding.

January 27, 2012

When Erin and Colin contacted me last year about their New Year’s Eve Wedding I was ecstatic. Erin is the little sister of one of my best friends and it meant so much for me to be there and even more meaningful to be the one capturing the day in pictures. I knew that, with a family I adore, friends that love to party and a night like New Year’s Eve, this was going to be the event of the year! Then Erin told me the guest count would be about 350. OK – wow! I’d need a second shooter. Through a photographers network I met Jaclyn of Jaclyn L Photography in Newport, RI and this year we had an opportunity to shoot other weddings together. Erin and Colin’s New Year’s Eve wedding would take us on a weekend adventure to Long Island. I couldn’t have asked for a better teammate.

Erin and Colin are the cutest, sweetest and most fun couple! While working to capture the pictures and then again while editing their many, many pictures – I smiled, laughed and filled up with tears. They are two of the most genuine people I have ever met. Their wedding day was how JOY feels. If that sounds silly, well that’s ok, because it’s the only way I know how to explain it. So instead of words, I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Erin and Colin – thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me to capture this most amazing day and celebration of love.

What a dress! Perfect for a New Year’s Eve Party.

I love the Hobans! Patty is Erin’s oldest sister and she and I have been friends since Freshman year in college. So lucky to have her in my life. The 3 sisters – Patty, Christine and Erin have the best relationship and you can see it in the pictures! So glad I caught one last picture of Erin taking a deep breath as she left the house on the way to the church. Meanwhile, Jaclyn was with the groom at the church and I especially love the first shot of Colin shown here. Oh and the best way to make a groom smile? Have some buddies drive by while he’s taking portraits ( 3 pictures of Colin below)!

Erin’s nephew Jack went down the aisle by himself, in front of all of those people. Couldn’t have been cuter!
Ready to celebrate at a reception at the Long Island Hyatt RegencyColin’s brother Brian was the Best Man, Erin’s sisters were her Matrons of Honor. The one of Erin and Colin with their bridal party laughing behind them just cracks me up. These stunning pictures of Erin were taken against tiles we noticed outside the entryway to the women’s room. Seriously!! Erin was up for anything. Love her!!
I love this picture that Jaclyn captured of Erin and Colin walking in. Shows the energy of the room ready to party. There’s a shot of me on the dance floor with one hand on the camera trigger and the other arm raised up with excitement too.

Now there’s a couple who know how to dance!  Below the first kiss of 2012 as Mr. and Mrs. Sheehan. Congratulations!

Engagement sessions – oh how I love them!  My session with Jaclyn and Michael was no exception. I left them feeling like I had know them for years and certain that their wedding was going to be an incredibly fun celebration.

Jaclyn, Michael and I met up on an unusually warm late day in late November and walked around Lenox with plenty of great opportunities to capture pictures of just the two of them. Jaclyn and Michael were up for anything I suggested and had fun and creative ideas too.  There was no hesitation when I asked them to jump into a middle of an intersection (I made sure I blocked any traffic) – gotta love that and the results!

I am so honored to be part of Jaclyn and Michael’s wedding day. Jaclyn was raised in Berkshire County and Michael is from Connecticut  and while they both reside in CT now they will be returning to celebrate their wedding here in the Berkshires during the beautiful summer season.

I enjoy finding out how my wedding couples met and fell in love. Michael and Jaclyn had the incredible fortune of being in the right place at the right time in order to spark a conversation that led to finding the perfect person to share their life with. One of my favorite parts of their story is that this conversation all began because Jaclyn kindly let Michael – a stranger at the time – know that his shoes had become untied. Don’t you love that you never know what small detail might change your entire life?

I’m so glad to have met these two and look forward to capturing their amazing July wedding this year.  Here are just a few favorites from their engagement shoot.

January 5, 2012
The excitement I feel  for 2012 is off the charts. It feels like I’ve been working so hard to get to this point and now I’m ready…ready to make it all happen. The first minutes of 2012 were spent photographing a New Year’s Eve wedding. Everything about it was phenomenal including Erin & Colin themselves and their incredible families.  I love the pictures captured and can’t wait to share them with the bride and groom. (That is, once I get through editing 12 hours and 2 shooters worth.  Wow!) I’ve spent the remaining days of this week organizing and preparing my home and office and it feels AMAZING. It was the best way to give my family and business a clean slate for 2012.  Now, I’m ready and although January originally seemed like it would slower than past months for me, I already have some photo shoots, client consults, photography workshops, business projects and I’m working with a designer for a new look for my website and blog.

The excitement I have for 2012 stems from the success and joy experienced in 2011. I mentioned in a recent FB post that 2011 will go down in history as the year I took the biggest leap of faith in myself. I quit my corporate job after 14 years and took my photography business from part time to full time. There wasn’t one day in 2011 that I looked back with doubt. I made the right choice!   Although it has been exciting, there were times I was completely overwhelmed, but even in those moments I felt in control of my own happiness and certain that being a photographer was what I am meant to do. The most incredible thing has been how much I have learned in 2011.  The biggest reason for that is the networking I have done with other photographers. They have become mentors and friends.  For that very reason, I’ll be headed to Mystic CT for the next three days to attend Mystic Seminars so I can meet new industry contacts and reconnect with familiar ones too. I’ll play the nerdy student sitting in the front of the room, so I can absorb all the education I can about photography and how to provide a better experience for my customers.

I’m so grateful to my family, friends and clients who have supported me this year. It just feels so wonderful to have this kind of support. I’m ending this post with a favorite photo from this past Saturday of Erin with her dad, ready to leave the house to become the new Mrs. Sheehan.

XO – Tricia

December 10, 2011

With the end of 2011 approaching, I’m taking a minute to reflect and feel gratitude for the year I just had. WOW! I’m on a high from capturing incredible moments spent with clients.  Weddings, as one of the most joyous and important days in a person’s life, give me the opportunity to be front and center to capture it all. This is a PRIVILEGE and that notion hasn’t been lost on me, not even for one nanosecond.  I want couples to hire me for the care I put into my work and for the experience of working together as much as for the images I capture.

I recall the advice I heard from an industry leader who said,  ”reveal your true self and you will ATTRACT the RIGHT clients TO you.”  As I write this blog post, I just hesitated, shut my eyes tight (for extra emphasis) and made a wish…. “Please, please, PLEASE…send more Brenda and Barrys my way!!!”

Brenda & Barry had a style that was timeless, they were kind, gracious and they were so much fun. Barry reached over to kiss Brenda on the cheek so many times throughout the day and so I couldn’t help myself when I told her what a lucky girl she was. Brenda smiled and genuinely replied “I know.”

I loved everything about Brenda and Barry’s day..the beautiful weather which is not typical for November, the personal touches that Father CJ brought to the ceremony, their kind hearted families, their bridal party (taking pictures with them was a riot!), their exquisite taste in the details and their rockin’-everybody-on-the-dance-floor reception. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Wolford. Thank you for the honor of sharing “your sweet beginning”.

Some special mentions of people that were part of their day:

Ceremony – We are extremely lucky to have Father CJ at St. Ann’s, I think many would agree he gives such a personal and beautiful Mass.

Reception – the Pittsfield Country Club, such a beautiful venue and with Melissa in charge, it’s always amazing.

Second Shooting by: Dre of Open Shade Studios in Sudbury, MA( Impossible not to LOVE HER!!! ) Some of Dre’s photos are included in the highlights included in this post.

November 21, 2011

As I sit to write this blog post it’s hard to know where to start. There are so many wonderful things to say about Sara and Michael’s wedding. Everything was perfect – the details, the food, the weather and even the cocktail-hour style reception that has everyone still talking!  I could even talk about James Taylor. He was a guest at this wedding and that is just plain cool. I’ll secretly hope that James is reading my blog post.

What I keep coming back to, is my need to express how happy it made me to be around Sara and Michael on their wedding day. Multiple moments during their wedding day provided a new reason for me to like these two even more than I already do.  I loved the ease in which they handled nervousness and any small mishap. I loved the endearing way they treated their friends and family throughout the day.  Above all, I appreciated the kind and loving way they are to one another. It’s a beautiful sign of a wonderful life ahead for these two great people.

Thank you Sara and Michael for allowing me to be part of your day and for making me feel so appreciated. I want you to know how honored I am to have been there. I wish you happiness and love for many, many years to come! Love, Tricia

A few shout outs:

Ceremony: St. Ann Church in Lenox

Reception: The Lenox Club with big thanks to Christian who is so awesome to work with. Gotta love someone who is that busy but thinks to  save me a plate of food at the end of the night.

Second shooting by: Jaclyn Lombardo Photography ( based in Newport, RI,  so talented and so FUN.  I cannot wait to work together again in a few weeks!)

Now a few favorite pictures from the day:

Sara’s veil has been passed down through generations in her family. Nine other woman in her family have worn the veil on their wedding day. On the left, Sara and on the right her mom Sue on her own wedding day.

Jaclyn of Jaclyn Lombardo Photography drove from Newport, RI to assist me with Sara and Michael’s wedding day. Her work is awesome and I’m hugely grateful we have met. Jaclyn stayed with the guys and got some great shots of them getting ready.

The Lenox Club is such a beautiful venue with so much interest and charm. I loved shooting there!

The speeches by Sara’s maid of honor Jackie and Michael’s Best Man Billy were fantastic!
